AS my grandmother reached her crowning years, the Lord thought it best to weaken her natural abilities. Her hearing, eyesight, and clarity of thought slowly diminished as the years increased in number. I remember my mother coming upon her searching for something in the kitchen. When Mom inquired what it was that she was looking for Granny replied, "I can not find my knitting needles." Mother, being quite surprised, asked, "Why would you look for them in the kitchen; you only ever knit in the living room?" Granny answered, "But the light is so much better in here." I cannot help but smile when I remember my Granny, but know this, Granny never did find her knitting needles in that kitchen.
Because they were not there. They were in the living room, where she was last using them. Granny searching for something that just wasn't there reminds me of people trying to find peace in the world. Many Christians look for peace in this world. They look in this world because they do not know where else to look. They look in this world because it's easier than looking where peace is actually found. But they will never find lasting peace in the world, because peace is not there. With all its many troubles, fears, and disappointments, in the world all you shall find is tribulation. Only in Christ is there PEACE. John 16:33 that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: From the Book: |

HOW shall we gain a knowledge of God?
The greatest thing in the world is to know God as revealed in the life of His Son. The noblest life is to live as His children that we may reveal to others the blessings of His Presence, His Guidance, and His Peace. II Corinthians 4:6 in the face of Jesus Christ. " Thomas J. Garland, D.D., LL.D., D.C.L., |

THIS nightingale Psalm, which sets the heart singing, is a sparkling gem. Many a morning David led his sheep into green pastures, and caused them to lie down by letting them eat until satisfied. He pondered over the Great Shepherd satisfying us with spiritual blessings that we too, would lie down in green pastures. Where are the Lord's pastures? In Psalm twenty-two is a picture of Calvary and the Lord crying "My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?" In Psalm twenty-four is a picture of heaven with its song, "Lift up your heads, oh ye gates." So you see the "green pasture" Psalm is right in between. Christian, think of it! You dwell in a place bounded on one side by Calvary, which breaks the storms that would sweep over you; and on the other by heaven, the sunny side toward which you are traveling. Just gaze at your situation. Beauties are there which you never thought of. You live in a spiritual oasis. Yes indeed, "He maketh me to lie down in green pastures."
"He maketh me to lie down in green pastures." Rev. Ross H. Stover, D.D., |

SEMPER FIDELIS (Always Faithful). This is the motto of the United States Marine Corps, that organization of valiant soldiers of the sea who have never known retreat. It is a splendid motto for the Christian. Loyalty is the great essential of life. "There may be mistaken loyalties but loyalty itself is never mistaken." The history of Christianity contains the record of lives of untold millions who heeded the exhortation of this challenging text. On April 21, 1873, Livingstone wrote in his Journal in a shaky hand, "Tried to ride, but was forced to lie down, and they carried me to the village exhausted." On the morning of May 4th his servant found him, not in bed, but kneeling at the bedside with his head buried in his hands upon the pillow. He had died in the act of prayer. Alone, in the heart of Africa, he left his tired worn body for the eternal home.
To follow in their train."
