I don't see how the Son of God
Saw fit to love me so;
Nor just why He was willing to
The cruel cross to go.
I cannot see why He should die
Upon the cursed tree,
And take the awful punishment
Which should have come to me.
Why did He give His precious life,
When only thirty-three,
To pay the price for my own sin,
That I might then go free?
Why did He shed His precious blood,
Rich blessings to bestow?
Why did He do all this for me?
Why did He love me so?
An answer from the skies I hear,
With radiance unfurled –
An answer from the Lord so Dear,
That, "God so loved the world."
