The doctrine of the Seond Coming of Christ is not one to be argued or desputed. Seemingly, we either have to believe the Lord Jesus is going to come again, or else deny the very Word itself. Some one has pointed out the fact that the Second Coming is mentioned about 1,527 times in the Old Testament. So we have a Bible filled with Propheies concerning the second appearing of our Blessed Lord. We might disagree as to when and as to how He is going to come, but if we are Christians, God help us not to doubt the fact that some day this Blessed Saviour is going to come again. He is going to come whether we agree on it or not. He said, "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."John 14:2-3 Therfore we have the definite promise from the Lord Himself that He shall come again, and that is only one of the many. Not only did the Lord Himself promise that He was coming, but we have so many of those promises from Paul, Peter, James, John and others. The purpose for the return of the Lord is at least two fold: First of all He is coming for those who hae believed in Him and are saved. There will be a bodily resurrection of the Christian dead, and a glorious translation of the living saints, as we see from I Thessalonians 4:16-18. In the second place the Lord is going to come again to take vengeance upon all them that know not God. To the Christian the assuance of Christ's coming is "The Blessed Hope," but to the unregenerate His coming will be the greatest cataclysmic judgment the world has ever known. There shall be great tribulation such as the world has never known or ever shall know.
