1. One had wealth; the other had poverty.
   2. One had health; the other had sickness.
   3. One had people for friends and companions; the other had only dogs.
   4. One was covered with purple and fine linen and was filled with good rich foods; the other was covered with sores.
   5. One had popularity and praise; the other had persecution.
   6. One had ease; the other had pain.
   7. One had a funeral; the other had none (the body of the beggar was no doubt thrown to the fowls of the air).
   8. One had pallbearers; the other had none (except the angels for his soul).
   9. One was sick in soul; the other was sick only in body.
   10. One had eternal damnation and doom in hell; the other had an eternal life of rest and glory with God.
   11. One was a beggar in hell; the other was a beggar on earth.
   12. One asked for a drop of water, being in torment, and it was refused him; the other asked for crumbs on earth, and they were refused him.

   Many other contrasts could be drawn, but I think these are sufficient for us to draw our conclusions. Which would be your choice?
I had rather be a subject and have the Lord, than to be a ruler and not be saved. I had rather be an employee with Christ as my Savior, than to be the employer and have a sin-sick soul. I had rather be a pauper, rich in grace, love and mercy, than to be a millionaire and be empty of grace and salvation.
