      ABEL OR CAIN ––– WHICH?

"it is the blood that maketh an atonement

for the soul."Jesus is Lord
                              Leviticus 17:11
II would have been better to have been Abel, who offered the bloody sacrifice to God, than to have been Cain, who offered of the fruit of the field. God had respect unto Abel's offering, but unto Cain's offering he had not respect (Genisis 4:3-5; Hebbrews 11:4). God is no respecter of persons, but He certainly is a respecter of offerings. He requires the blood.
God told Moses to tell the people of Israel, who were down in Egypt, that He was going to come through the land of Egypt that night at midnight. His word to them was that if He saw the blood sprinkled on the door posts He would pass over them, but if He failed to see the blood He would visit them by the death of the first born of every man and beast. There was no exception on either side. The only thing that caused the Lord to take the first born of every home, from Pharaoh who sat on the throne to the man who was in the prison, was the fact that no blood had been applied. The only thing that caused the Lord to pass over the other homes, was not the goodness of the people, not the way in which they had worked, but the fact that the blood had been applied. Yes, and how true it is that the blood is still the factor that determines the "visiting" or the "passing over" of the Lord. "Without shedding of blood is no remission" (Hebrews 9:22).
The results between blood and no blood are very great and so different. Abel was killed, but his soul had been made white in the blood of the Lamb, who was slain before the foundation of the world. Cain said that his punishment was greater than he could bear. "And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord" (Gen. 4:16). He who did not believe in being so cruel as to take the life of an animal in order to sacrifice its blood, became so cruel when his offering was not accepted that he shed the innocent blood of his own brother. I'm glad that I believe in the Blood of Christ. It is either that for everyone of us, or else everyone will have to bear his own punishment, which is eternal separation from God: from the God who cannot look upon sin, and yet from the God who "so loved the world that he gave" all that He had to make it possible for us to be saved.
