WORLDLY AMUSEMENTS "He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness Psalm 23:3 |
|
You hear many people asking the question, "Is it wrong to do this or that, or what is there wrong about going to this place or that place, or I don't see anything wrong in doing that if I want to," etc. I believe that the latter part of the third verse of the twenty-third Psalm will answer every question concerning worldly amusements as well as any other verse in the Bible. David tells us that the Lord leads people in paths of Righteousness, nor for our enjoyment, not for our welfare, not for our name's sake, but for His own Name's sake. We know that it is absolutely wrong to go anywhere or do anything wherein the Lord will not lead, and the Lord will certainly not lead us to go anywhere or do any thing wherein His Name cannot be honored and glorified. We may go to the card parties, but if we do the Lord will not be leading. His Name can never be exalted while shuffling the devil's tools. We may attend and participate in the modern dance, but it will be of our own choosing, not the Lord's. The Name of the Lord certainly cannot be honored and uplifted at a place where, according to statistics, at least eighty per cent of the fallen women of the land take their first steps downward. It would hardly be possible to think that we could bring any honor to His precious Name, while our eyes are beholding the most lustful and degrading scenes imaginable, being shown on the screens of the average theater today. Many other things could be mentioned, but my prayer is that we may all remember this: The Lord's Name is pure, spotless, holy and exalted by God above that of any other name, and He will not lead us where that name cannot be uplifted. Are your words, your actions and your steps exalting the precious Name of the One who made it possible for us to be called by His Name, the name CHRISTIAN? |
