It was the late W. Leon Tucker who used to say, "This world we live in is mighty hard to beat; you get thorns with the roses, but aren't the roses sweet?" That is certainly true. I know that we have thousands of joys and pleasures in this world that we should enjoy. Yet the greatest pleasures down here will only be a foretaste of the real joy and happiness that we will enjoy with Christ throughout eternity. Some day, by grace through faith, we can go to a place where there will be no thorns with the roses, no sorrows with the joys, no broken hearts with the hearts made glad, and no suffering, no pain, no sorrows, no sickness, no sighing, no crying and no dying. Many burdened hearts today are hopefully waiting for the time to come when this "corruption shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality." Then the valley of the shadow will be changed into the glorious dawning of an eternal day. God shall not only wipe away tears for a moment or for a day, but forever. He not only wipes the tears away, but He also wipes everything else away that could bring tears again. Many of the martyrs of the past have welcomed death itself, "not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection" (Hebrews 11:35). "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord" (Revelation 14:13), and "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints" (Pslam 116:15). |
