| Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abednego. |
| NOTICE where Daniel had his purpose. He did not have it in his head but in his heart. It takes more than determination to come forth victoriously; it takes consecration. Daniel knew that God could do more for him than could the king. Daniel must have desired that his purpose would please the king, but even if it failed to please the king, Daniel was going to have the purpose just the same. He was not going to defile himself with the spicy meats and wines of the king. He was willing to prove the Lord before an unbelieving world. His purpose brought him peace of mind, favor with the king, and a place of prominence in the kingdom. Not only that, but it also brought glory to the Lord. Others all around Daniel were no doubt willing to yield to the king's command, but Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself, but would be true to the Lord. And the Lord is wanting Christians working for Him who have a purpose not to defile themselves and bring shame to His Name, even though we are living in times when people all around us may be doing that very thing.
