GAMALIEL must have been a great teacher with a brilliant, as well as a common-sense, mind. Peter and some other of the apostles were being hindered because they were teaching in the name of the Lord Jesus. Gamaliel told them to let the men alone. If it were only the work of men it would of itself come to nought. But if it was the work of the Lord it would be impossible for them to overthrow it. "If God be for us who can be against us."
Someone has made the statement that "you and God are a majority," and surely that must be correct. Many times people are blind to the workings and leadings of the Holy Spirit, and many times blindness leads to jealousy and hatred, and they lead to persecution and stumbling-blocks. However, the Lord is still able to make us "more than conquerors" if we are in the center of His will doing what He wants us to do.
It is a dangerous thing to try to hinder the work of the Lord. Concerning the ones who do so the Lord says,
"Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in." (Matthew 23:13)
