WHEN it comes to the fact of the people of the Lord making alliances or intermingling with the peoples of the world, the Lord definitely draws the line. He has no place for it whatsoever. God told the people of Israel not to make any covenant with foreign nations, but to "destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves." The world has never had any room for Jesus. Before He was born He was refused a room in the inn in which to make His appearance, being manifest in the flesh. And after He had lived His few short years down here, they still had no place for Him, so they nailed Him on a cross. People who know not God are of the world, and the friendship of the world is enmity against God. "Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world, is an enemy of God."
The Lord always has said, "Come out from among them and be ye separate." He is still saying, "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world; if any man love the world the love of the Father is not in him." The worst thing that could have been said of Demas was said of him by Paul, when Paul declared how "Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world."
"The world passeth away, and the lusts thereof; but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever."
