THE Lord Jesus Christ does not want to take anything away from us that would do us good. He does not want to destroy our happiness. He wants to give us more happiness and more joy than we have ever had before. Many times He tells us to rejoice, but He says "Rejoice in the Lord." He does not say for us to rejoice in the world, or in the things of the world, but in the Lord. He wants us to do the most important thing first, and the question of the soul is the first and the important thing, and the same Lord that will take care of the soul has also promised that "these things" (food, shelter and clothing) shall be added unto us. Salvation is not added unto them, for there are many who have plenty of food, clothing, shelter and drink, but are destitute so far as the salvation of their souls is concerned. "These things" are added unto salvation, therefore, we should seek first of all the kingdom of God and His righteousness and think about the soul in preference to the body: for "What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul; or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?"
